The Centre has a small working Board and an illustrious Advisory Council.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Raffi Cavoukian, C.M., O.B.C. (Chair) Singer, author, founder of Child Honouring. Known to millions simply as Raffi, a renowned Canadian songwriter and performer. A global troubadour with two honourary degrees, the Order of Canada and the UN’s Earth Achievement Award. Member of the Council of Human Development and the Club of Budapest.
Bert Simpson (Secretary) Senior Associate, Troubadour Music. Formerly a primary teacher and consultant in inner-city Toronto schools, involved with Raffi and his music since 1976. Current work includes communications, marketing, contracts, and creative development.
Sabrina Aven (Treasurer) has a background in Environmental Assessment Technology, and is experienced in non-profit organizations such as the Salt Spring Island Conservancy and the Land Trust Alliance of BC. She has been a park naturalist and an environmental education coordinator in pubic schools. Sabrina lives on Salt Spring Island raising two adventurous boys.
ADVISORY COUNCIL
Lester Brown, author of 50 books, is founder and President of Earth Policy Institute. His awards include a Macarthur Fellowship, the United Nations Environment Prize, and Japan’s Blue Planet Prize. His latest book is Plan B 3.0: Mobilizing to Save Civilization.
Fritjof Capra, Ph.D., physicist, systems theorist and author, is a founding director of the Center for Ecoliteracy, which promotes ecology and systems thinking in primary and secondary education. His latest book is The Science of Leonardo.
Riane Eisler, Ph.D., and cultural historian, is author of the international bestseller The Chalice and The Blade and more recently The Real Wealth of Nations.
Budd L. Hall, Ph.D., is the Director of the Office of Community-Based Research, University of Victoria.
Dr. Judith G. Hall, is a Clinical Geneticist and Pediatrician. She trained at Wellesley College, the University of Washington School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was named one of America’s top 1,000 doctors by American Health Magazine in 1996.
David C. Korten, Ph.D., is the author of the international bestsellers When Corporations Rule the World, The Great Turning, and Agenda for a New Economy: From Phantom Wealth to Real Wealth.
Fran Korten, Ph.D., is Executive Director, Positive Futures Network and Publisher of Yes! Magazine.
Roslyn Kunin, C.M., Ph.D., is President of Roslyn Kunin and Associates Inc., an economic consultancy.
Philip J. Landrigan, MD MSc, FAAP Pediatrician and international leader in public health, Dr. Landrigan is the Ethel H. Wise Professor and Chairman for the Department of Community and Preventive Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and Director of the Children's Environmental Health Center, New York.
Bruce P. Lanphear, MD, MPH is the Sloan Professor of Children's Environmental Health and Professor of Pediatrics at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Lanphear is director of the Cincinnati Children's Environmental Health Center located at Cincinnati Children's. He is a member of the U.S. EPA's Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee Lead Review Panel and a Member of the National Children's Study Steering Committee.
Elise Miller, M.Ed., is Founder and Executive Director of the National Institute for Children’s Environmental Health (ICEH).
Sharna Olfman, Ph.D., is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor of Developmental Psychology in the Department of Humanities and Human Sciences at Point Park University, Pittsburgh. She is the editor of the ‘Childhood in America’ book series, and co-editor of Child Honouring: How to Turn this World Around.
Charles E. Pascal, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the Atkinson Charitable Foundation, promoting social and economic justice. He has been President of Sir Sandford Fleming College, and has also held deputy ministerial posts with the Government of Ontario.
The Very Reverend Bill Phipps, LL.B., D.D., served as Moderator of the United Church of Canada from 1997 to 2000. He is co-founder of Faith and The Common Good Interfaith Network, an International President of the World Conference on Religion and Peace, and author of Cause for Hope: Humanity at the Crossroads.
Carolyn Pogue is the author of many books for all ages, including: After the Beginning, an ecological tale for children, Seasons of Peace: A Teacher’s Guide, and A World of Faith: Introducing Spiritual Traditions to Teens. She is the co-founder of the Calgary branch of Womwn in Black and also the art of peace: a Camp for Kids.
Stuart Shanker, Ph.D., is Distinguished Research Professor of Philosophy and Psychology at Atkinson Faculty of Liberal and Professional Studies, York University. He is Co-Director of Council of Human Development and member of the Board of Directors of the Council for Early Child Development.
Joel Solomon is President and CEO of Renewal, a founding member of the Social Venture Network (SVN) and Business for Social Responsibility (BSR), and Chair of the Board of the Tides Canada Foundation.
